MOBI - Mobipocket
What is a MOBI file
The MOBI file extension was created in 2000 by Mobipocket for their Reader software, compatible with devices like Windows Mobile, Palm OS, Kindle, Blackberry, PDAs, computers, and smartphones. Amazon bought Mobipocket in 2005. Support for MOBI files ended in 2007 when they were replaced by the AZW file extension.
MOBI files are based on the Open eBook XHTML standard and can include JavaScript. Users can add pages, annotations, drawings, highlights, and notes. Mobipocket Readers usually feature a built-in dictionary.
To use MOBI files on newer devices, conversion is essential. This ensures compatibility and a better reading experience on modern eBook readers. There are many programs available to help with this task.
Here are some programs that can open MOBI files:
- Bookize Reader
- Mobipocket Reader Desktop
- Amazon Kindle
- Apple Books
